If you don't have the Spark, you will never be big-C creative, no matter what you do, but even if you have It, cultivation is still important. Off-the-charts bandwidth and processing speed are necessary to be a Deep Generalist, the type of person who can do what narrow experts do, if so inclined, but with whom narrow experts have no hope of competing broadly. It's amazing how much easier it is to do everything well when one makes it a habit, even when writing an email!
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend making a point of always being perfectly groomed and fit, as the time required to make that happen is great for meditation and daydreaming, and the more spectacular the results, the more impervious the armour against what other people think, as taunting perfection is absurd. Sure, people will take more of an interest in what you do than if you blended in, but you won't even notice or care! Real confidence means the occasional taste of crow is a mere palate-cleanser...
