The fourth episode of Podcast for Inquiry features Caroline Russell-King discussing the secular case for Bill 21, in the second instalment of a two-part series. Caroline describes the harms Bill 21 is intended to mitigate, and whether they justify the nontrivial limitations it places on religious expression. Caroline and I discuss why Bill 21 has so split the secular community in Canada, and whether she sees any room for improvement.

Thank you Caroline for your willingness to have this discussion. This was courageous. I am with you in the minority group that supports Bill 21. Thank you once again Leslie for hosting another podcast. It is important to have these discussions and it is wonderful to see a demonstration of mutual respect while holding and discussing the points where you find agreement and the areas where the marker between agreement and disagreement begins to shift. Both of you have my deepest appreciation.
ReplyDeleteDown with misogynistic cultural practices! Such as the normalization of women being branded, like chattel, with their fathers' and husbands' surnames, sometimes both at the same time, in hyphenated form... Québec is definitely ahead of the curve by outlawing married names and mandating that children take on the surnames of both parents... When will the rest of Canada catch up?
